Protocol that encrypts the connection between the browser and the server, the foundation of HTTPS.
SSL/TLS encrypts data transmitted between the browser and server, while also authenticating that the server is the legitimate owner of the domain name. The SSL designation remains in common use even though the versions actually running are all TLS.
Three types of certifications differ in verification level, not encryption strength: DV verifies only domain control; OV additionally verifies organization existence; EV performs the deepest verification of legal entity.
For e-commerce websites or enterprise service portals, OV or higher is a common choice because organization information appears in the Certification.
