Distributed denial-of-service attack, system congestion from massive fake traffic.
DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) is an attack type that uses many sources simultaneously to send requests to a target, aiming to exhaust bandwidth or processing resources so real users cannot access it.
Effective DDoS protection must work at multiple layers: filtering large traffic volumes upstream at the infrastructure provider, hiding the origin server address behind a filtering layer or CDN, rate-limiting requests by IP and by path, and enabling caching for static content.
Important to know before signing a contract: DDoS-caused interruptions typically fall within the exclusions of service level commitment, unless a separate DDoS protection plan is in place.
